Only a short distance from Grimsby, the seaside resort of Cleethorpes and the historic market town of Louth, the Lincolnshire Wolds Railway is a great day out for everyone.

Ride on the train, enjoy some great food in the café and make some new amazing memories as you visit us.  Our heritage steam trains run between Ludborough and North Thoresby and work is now in progress to extend the line southwards towards Louth.

We are managed and run entirely by a team of dedicated volunteers, do come and say hello. We are so excited to welcome you to the only standard gauge Heritage Steam Railway in Lincolnshire.

It is very important to us to keep our heritage line running and keeping steam alive, we are living history with a purpose to recreate and preserve railway scenes of the past. We look forward to giving you a warm welcome.

Volunteering at LWR

The Lincolnshire Wolds Railway is staffed entirely by volunteers and we are always looking for interested people who can spare some time to help.

Volunteering gives you the opportunity to meet new people from all walks of life and gain new skills. There is a wide choice of jobs covering every aspect of the railway’s activities.

On working days (mainly Tuesdays and Saturdays) we need personnel in the Permanent Way, Maintenance and Engineering Departments.

On running days (when we are open to the public) we have vacancies working in the Buffet, Shop, Museum, Ticket Office and on the Platform. Various jobs including Guards, Ticket Inspectors, Signalmen and Train Crew are also available after training.

We also have opportunities to work from home but still be part of the core of the railway – Doing updates on our social media pages, replying to feedback and comments received, covering moderator roles for our social media sites, advertising with different channels online – if you have the skills to help, do get in touch!!

We also hold events throughout the year which involve entertaining our visitors at the railway of all ages, if you enjoy making people happy, have a bubbly personality , love fancy dress and getting dressed up and generally having fun without a care in the world, we would love for you to volunteer to be part of our entertainments team.
