About
The Art Group was originally set up as a watercolour painting class nearly 20 years ago.
Since then, it has developed into a less structured event, exploring different techniques and styles using a variety of media. We no longer have a tutor but encourage each other to develop our abilities. The usual format is a still life or photograph for the whole class but there is no compulsion to follow that, and everyone is free to ‘do their own thing.’ We occasionally invite a professional artist to demonstrate their work, thus introducing us to new ideas and
techniques.
In 2015 we were invited to join with another local Art group to hold a joint exhibition of Art works in the Methodist chapel. This week-long event was a great success and, encouraged by that, we decided to hold our own exhibition the following year, inviting other village artists and photographers to contribute their own work.
This was very successful and we have held an annual exhibition ever since and the format has evolved over the years. Any profits go to the Club funds, the Chapel and ‘Events’ activities.
Our next venture, as part of the NTCEA’s ‘Art and Heritage in the Community’ grant-funded project, is to exhibit some of our pieces on a rolling basis in some of the public spaces in the village, including the Village Hall and Doctors' surgery. We do hope you enjoy looking at them.
