About

The North Thoresby Community Events Association is a volunteer group which has worked in the village in a wide variety of ways since 2016.  We aim to enhance community life by organising social, recreational, educational and cultural events and by preserving our historical heritage.

In 2017, we established our Community Fund to reinvest event income into future activities, village improvements and financial and other support for local organisations. We have provided grants to many local groups including the sports clubs, the Wesley Centre, Brownies and Rainbows, and the Thoresby Singers.

We financially supported the village campaign related to the Beanland development and provided £150 welcome grants to Ukrainian families relocating to the area.  We work closely with the Academy, funding art projects and Christmas activities. Pupils have taken part in our archaeological digs, history walks and archive sessions.

During Covid (2020–2023) we organised a mail drop to all residents, mobilised 80 volunteers and delivered prescriptions to more than 100 households. In 2018, we successfully revived the annual Horticultural Show and founded the North Thoresby History Society, which runs monthly presentations, has conducted two archaeological digs, established a Village History Archive, produced Oral History recordings and has published four books on village history. Between 2020–2024, we produced a Community News magazine funded entirely by local advertisers.

We organise regular concerts, have organised two Arts Festivals, Dog Shows, and a Movie Club.  Events initiated and funds the village Christmas lights and alternates with the Parish Council in purchasing the Christmas tree. Our annual Christmas charity event raises over £500 each year for local causes such as the Samaritans, Grimsby Women’s Refuge, East Marsh Youth Clubs and fundraiser Nicky Haxby.

Additional aspects of our activities include sponsoring equipment for Robin Kelly, the volunteer who maintains village streets, funding a memorial bench in the Memorial Garden and purchasing a large screen, projector and laptop for community use in the Village Hall.

We regularly collaborate with groups such as the Pop-In Lunch Club for special community meals, including celebrations for King Charles’ Coronation and key national anniversaries.

Most recently, NTCEA secured grants to develop this community website, to install interpretation boards near some of our historic sites, to introduce upgrades to the Archive facilities and public access, and to install public displays of artworks, heritage materials and historic prints in some of our public spaces.

Our organisational documents—including our constitution, data protection and safeguarding policies, financial procedures and grant application guidance  - are   available on the website. (link needed).
